Nigerian writers and journalists are facing relentless attempts by state and non-state actors to suppress political criticism and to censor film and music productions, said PEN International as Nigeria’s human rights record comes under scrutiny at the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review in Geneva.

Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of Myanmar’s National League for Democracy, receives the UNESCO-Mandanjeet Singh Award for Tolerance and Non-Violence 10 years after it was granted to her.
She was unable to receive the award in 2002 because of her detention under house arrest.
