Hello again from Iowa City!
Last week we wrote to share news of IWP’s upcoming MOOC “Every Atom” (http://courses.writinguniversity.org/courses). This week we’re writing to ask if you know any aspiring young writers ages 16-19 in Russia, Arabic-speaking countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and the US. If so, we’d be very grateful if you would share this upcoming IWP opportunity with them:
Between the Lines: The Writing Experience (http://iwp.uiowa.edu/programs/between-the-lines), a creative writing summer program for teenagers, is now accepting nominations for young writers ages 16-19 from Russia and Arabic-speaking countries in the Middle East and North Africa to join young US writers for two weeks of writing and cultural exchange. Now in its seventh year, from June 21st to July 5th this group of young writers will live and study together on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, Iowa. Daily activities include world literatures seminars, creative writing workshops with award-winning authors, and nightly cultural exchange activities. Funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and hosted by the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, this program seeks to bring together young people who want to become writers of fiction or poetry in their own language. Writing workshops are conducted in English, Arabic and Russian, and international writers are chosen for the strength of their writing in their native language of Russian or Arabic, not English. All international applicants must apply through the US Embassy or consulate located in their country.
For further information, and for a list of participating countries, please visit the program’s international FAQ page:http://iwp.uiowa.edu/programs/between-the-lines/2013-faq-international
Many thanks for your time.
With best wishes,
The International Writing Program
